About Us
What is HCAIAC?
The Health Care Acquired Infection Advisory Committee is a statutorily mandated committee to advise Oregon Health Policy and Research (OHPR) on the development of a health care acquired infections reporting program in Oregon.  The program will require health care facilities to report health care acquired infection measures starting on January 1, 2009 for subsequent public reporting.  The advisory committee will advise OHPR on what specific health care acquired infection measures that health care facilities must report and prescribe the form, manner and frequency of reports of health care acquired infection measures by health care facilities.  For more information, please contact James Oliver at (503) 373-1648, Jeanne Negley at (503) 373-1793 or Shawna Kennedy at (503) 373-1598.

Uploading Procedure Data from a Spreadsheet

The following documents are offered to support hospital in uploading procedure data from a spreadsheet:  spreadsheetCDC Documentation, and directions to create a CSV file.  Note that not all fields in the spreadsheet are required for procedure reporting.  Hospitals are encouraged to talk with their IT staff to support this process.

Clinical Document Architecture (CDA)

Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) is a Health Level 7 (HL7) standard which provides framework for format of electronic documents.  NHSN has been enabled to accept electronic infection reports, denominator data, and process of care data from commercial infection surveillance systems.

To implement CDA for NHSN, please contact your Infection Control Software vendor to inquire about the availability of generating CDA events records for importation into NHSN.
  • The following systems are noted as having CDA in place to automate upload of NHSN data: TheraDoc (now called Hospira); SafetySurveiller (Premier); EpiQuest; ICPA (AICE; now called DB Diagnostics), MedMined (now called Carfusion); Vigilanz Corp; Pharmacy Onesource; and Vecna Medical.
  • The following systems are noted as currently in process of developing CDA capabilities for NHSN: Cerner, Mediware, and McKesson.
